Solution Design Service

Solution Design bridges the gap between business needs and what technology has to offer.

Architecture exists to enable the Enterprise.

Solution Design Service

Our approach uses Information Network Corporation's Solutions Design Process. The engagement starts with strategic consultation and alignment to corporate goals. The PSA begins with the concept phase assisting with development of requirements. The requirements are translated from business need to a coherent & feasible technical design that can then be used to build the solution.

The PSA assesses the Present Method of Operation (PMO) and Desired Method of Operation (DMO) against the customer's requirements to determine feasibility. A Feasibility Design identifies a high level Scope, Approach, Timeline and Estimate.

Defining Scope is the most important part of the up front definition and planning process. If you don't know what you are delivering and what the boundaries of the project are, you have no chance for success.

The Approach summarizes the detail that is captured in a project work plan, and some of the logic that went into creating it. This information will help the sponsor and other management stakeholders understand how the project will progress without having to interpret the actual work plan.

The high level Timeline identifies the important events that will need to occur.

A high level Estimate has a limited level of accuracy and in this phase is used for budgetary purposes.

Finalizing the Solution Design for delivery is next in the Solution Design Process. Where as the Feasibility Design communicates a high level of detail, the Solution Design provides the level of detail required to implement.

Principal Solution Architect

The Principal Solution Architect (PSA) performs the following tasks during the Solution Design Process:
  • Assist in development/refinement of requirements
    • If exists, then an assessment of the requirements
  • Research PMO – Present Method of Operation (Ops Baseline)
  • Develop Gap Analysis (Compare PMO to DMO)
  • Develop solution design (Solution Blueprint)
  • Research & select appropriate technology
  • Define the integration of components of the design & the rest of the enterprise (interfaces)
  • Calculate the capacity & reliability required for each 'stress point' in the design (introducing 'scaling factors' where necessary)
  • Investigate patterns of design to ensure the fruits of lessons learned by others are enjoyed by the solution design
  • Align solution components with IT Roadmap (if exists)
  • Develop roadmap substitute with industry components based on PMO and operations support capabilities
  • Request quotes and develop estimate
  • Review, modify as required
  • Coordinate consensus (Approval)
  • Monitor, govern and verify solution implementation
  • Finalize Solution Design document (Addressing, Location, etc.)
